Foto Care

Foto Care first opened in 1968 as the Underground Gallery, a showplace for fine art photography. The "little shop" has grown into a big store on West 22nd Street, offering sales, rentals, training, consultation, and problem solving assistance for both digital and conventional photographers. Being in a visual business, Foto Care needed a first class visual identity for their storefronts.  Green Mountain Graphics created and installed a package of vinyl graphics and cutout acrylic letters that communicate Foto Care's premier position in NYC's photography industry.

Quality visual communication doesn't have to be expensive!  Does your signage fully communicate the image you wish to convey?  We invite you to draw on our experience to develop cost-effective, visually beautiful, high-quality signage.

NY Science Fiction Society (Back to Top)
asimov

Every year, at LunaCon, the annual convention of the New York Science Fiction Society (The Lunarians), the Isaac Asimov Memorial Award is presented to the person who "increased public knowledge or understanding in science, through writing and other works, and exemplifies qualities which the late Dr. Asimov admired".  Green Mountain Graphics is proud to be the supplier of this prestigious award – a medallion bearing the likeness of Dr. Asimov, embedded in a lucite pyramid, mounted on a wood base, with an engraved brass plate.   The portrait of Asimov was drawn by illustrator Frank Kelly Freas, ten-time Hugo Award-winning illustrator of book and magazine covers and interior art for science fiction, fantasy, NASA space program, record albums, advertising, and MAD Magazine. and a close friend of Isaac Asimov.  Previous recipients of the award include, Arthur C. Clark, Stephen Hawking, Stephen J. Gould, and Charles Sheffield. Commenting on the award, Ira Donewitz of The Lunarians noted "If you view the pyramid from above, an optical illusion of a coin with a hole in it is formed".

The most meaningful awards embody the spirit of the presenter with creativity and style.  Does your business or organization present awards?  We welcome the opportunity to work with you to create truly distinctive awards which you will be proud to present, and your recipients will be thrilled to receive.

Focus On: Gold Leaf (Back to Top)
Gold Leaf

Green Mountain Graphics was recently honored by being selected to install the Papal Crest, and the Crest of the Archbishop of New York, on the glass doors of their office suite of the Catholic Center at 1011 First Ave, NYC.  The crests are genuine gold leaf, with silkscreened and hand painted details.

Gold leaf is a traditional form of signage, now used for only the most prestigious installations.  The earliest known use of gold leaf dates back to the Ancient Egyptians, who applied gold leaf to the pyramids.  Today, gold leaf is manufactured by combining solid gold with varying amounts of silver or copper to achieve a specific effect.  The process is partially automated, and partially relies on traditional craftsmanship including hand-hammering to a thickness of 0.025 - 0.028 mm.

The process of creating gold leaf signage is time-consuming and requires a unique combination of craftsmanship and artistry.  The steps include priming the surface, applying the base color, applying the "size" or adhesive that is used to adhere the gold leaf to a surface, and then applying the leaf.  Finally, a protective coat of sealant is added as the finishing touch.

Few sign companies offer gold leaf signage today.  We are pleased to be recognized for the excellence of our artisan's work by the Archdiocese of New York, among other customer's who demand the very finest signage.

When you want signage that is truly special, consider gold leaf.  We offer a variety of gold and silver leaf finishes, and have the expertise to create signage that is extraordinary.  Green Mountain Graphics is your one-stop source for all your signage needs.
